INBA Summer Board Meeting Summary

The INBA Board of Directors met in Normal on August 1, and covered several items:

Agreed to change the Illinois News Broadcasters Association Facebook group to a closed group, and to keep it in line with membership rolls.  Board members hope that will be a place members can go to pose questions or start discussions in a more protected environment.  The INBA Facebook page will remain open and will act as more of a marketing tool for the organization.

Agreed to make a SINBA Facebook group for various chapters’ officers and advisors to use to communicate with each other.

Approved awarding a Distinguished Service Award to Richard Theis, a Champaign attorney who was of great help with legal issues and the early cameras in the courts efforts.

Learned that the Spring 2015 Convention had total attendance of 135 and ended with just over $800 profit.

Heard a report on Cameras in the Courts - Committee Chair Jim Grimes has been calling circuits and is finding no problems.

Accepted new board member Aaron Eades’ offer to take on the Honors and Awards committee.

Added new board member Nora Baldner, plus Jennifer Fuller, Colleen Reynolds and Jacob Long to the Financial Committee, in order to explore new options for scholarship fund-raising, aside from the traditional Scholarship Auction. The auction has suffered in recent years, due to lower attendance at Fall Conventions.

Approved two resolutions regarding the Fall 2016 Convention – one to hold it in Quincy, the other to hold it in conjunction with the IBA-U event, which is a day-long conference aimed at broadcasting students, typically in Normal on a Friday in the fall.  Both resolutions will be brought before the General Membership at the Fall Convention, for discussion and a vote.
