We can’t wait to see you in Urbana Sept. 8-10 for the INBA Fall Convention.
Here is the schedule for the weekend, along with some useful information for people coming into town.
Friday, Sept. 8
> Noon / INBA Board Meeting at Eastland Suites, 1907 N. Cunningham Ave., Urbana. (This meeting is open to all members.)
> 7-9 p.m. / Opening reception networking event – 77 Club / Memorial Stadium. This event at the Fighting Illini’s football stadium is open to all convention attendees. Complimentary parking is available in Lot E-14 (Football Lot 32) at the corner of First Street and Kirby Avenue, just southwest of Memorial Stadium. (See parking map.) Enter Gate 16 located near the Red Grange statue on the west side of the stadium. (See stadium gate map.) Take the elevator to the 8th floor and exit to the left. The Club will be directly ahead. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by the University of Illinois as you mingle with new friends and former colleagues.
Saturday, Sept. 9 (All events at the Eastland Suites)
> 9-10 a.m.: Panel 1 – The State of News with the Frank Center and Illinois Public Media
> 10:15-11:15 a.m.: Panel 2 – News Writing training with Colleen King, The Frank Center
> 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.: Panel 3 – Work/Life/Wellness tips with Carle Health and Eli, a canine therapy visitor
> 12:30-2 p.m.: Lunch, membership business meeting, officer elections
> 2:15-3:30 p.m.: Panel 4 – Data Journalism with Brant Houston, University of Illinois. Be sure to have your charged laptop ready to go to follow along with Brant’s data lesson.
> 3:30 p.m.: Illinois Public Radio biannual meeting
> 3:45-4:30 p.m.: Making Your Reel (Students in attendance can bring a portfolio of their work for a critique from a broadcast news professional)
> 4 p.m.: INBA Foundation board meeting
> 6 p.m.: Cocktails
> 6:30 p.m.: Dinner
> 7 p.m.: Keynote address – Public radio’s Jeremy Hobson (virtual)
> 8 p.m.: Crystal Mic Awards (Here’s a list of finalists.)
Sunday, Sept. 10 (All events at the Eastland Suites)
Checkout time at the hotel is 11 a.m. You may want to clear your room and check out prior to the first session.
> 9-10:15 a.m.: Panel 5 – How I Did This with Capitol News Illinois’ Molly Parker and Beth Hundsdorfer and St. Louis Public Radio’s Eric Schmid
> 10:15 a.m.: Brunch buffet
> 11 a.m.: Illinoisan of the Year presentation
