Five Scholarships Awarded to Students
Five scholarships were awarded to students during the INBA Spring Convention in Normal, April 25. The scholarships are $1500 each, which is a new high in the INBA's history.
The winners are:
Tyrianna Jones, Illinois State University
Tyrianna is a junior from Chicago. She has been a reporter for The Vidette and is currently a producer and anchor at TV-10 News. She recently won the Randy Salerno Memorial Scholarship, and was named TV-10’s Outstanding Newcomer in Journalism. She is a student supervisor at Milner Library and is a member of Alpha Phi Omega. She has attended two alternative Spring Break trips.
Falynn Lannert, Illinois State University
Falynn is a senior from Pekin. She has been a DJ and newscaster for WZND radio for 2.5 years. At TV-10 News, she has been a weathercaster, reporter, producer and anchor, and is currently Executive Producer of the Feature Segments, as well as producing two segments each week. She also writes for HerCampus online magazine and has been a blogger for the Vidette.
Kristi O'Connor, Illinois State University
Kristi is a senior from Manteno. She has been a sports reporter and editor, and then Editor in Chief of the Daily Vidette. At TV-10 News, she has been a weathercaster, reporter, producer and anchor, and she helped create a new show “The Bottom Line,” that takes one topic and examines it through multiple voices, including the social media voice. She was named a Bone Student Scholar, ISU’s highest academic award. She completed an internship at WFLD-TV, Chicago. She works for Redbird Productions and as an Associate Producer at WMBD-TV in Peoria.
Emily Pomorski, Illinois State University
Emily is a senior from Mokena. She is News and Sports Operations Director at WZND radio, and has been on staff there all four years. She has been a weathercaster, reporter, producer, sportscaster and anchor at TV-10, and is currently a host of the entertainment show “Ten on 10.”
Torrence Sorrell, University of Illinois
Torrence is a senior from Chicago. For the Daily Illini, he has been an On-Air reporter and is currently an On-Air Sports Editor. He is also a play-by-play announcer for Student U with the Big 10 Network. He won the H. Maxine Gladding Greenwood Scholarship. He did a summer programming internship with CBS Radio in Chicago, and has been a student library clerk for three years.
